Burnham-On-Sea’s Hillview Carnival Club celebrated their 40th anniversary and a win at their home carnival on Monday night.

The town club’s jungle-themed entry, called Jungle Fever, won first place in the best juvenile feature entry category and was also named best local entry and had the most outstanding local costumes.

Decorated with more than 5,000 light bulbs, the 80ft-long cart has cost the club more than £10,000 to build.

Hillview’s treasurer, Lyn Burland, said: “We are all thrilled that our hard work has paid off. The children really enjoyed the support of our home town – thank you.”

The club turned the tables on second-placed Marina Sydenham, who won the juvenile category at Bridgwater Carnival last Saturday.
