A teenage motorist who was arrested by Police in Highbridge following reports of a ‘high speed chase’ at the weekend has been released under investigation.

Police detained a teenage male in Pearce Drive after a black car had been seen being driving at speed along Morland Road on Sunday. Posts on social media state that it narrowly missed several vehicles.

The Police helicopter was seen hovering overhead at the time.

Police spokesman Wayne Baker confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We arrested a teenager after he failed to stop for officers on Sunday afternoon. He was driving a car, believed to be stolen, in the Morland Road area of Highbridge.”

“Shortly afterwards the vehicle was found in nearby Pearce Drive and the driver was arrested on suspicion of taking a motor vehicle.”

“Police enquiries into the incident are continuing. The arrested teenager has been released under investigation.”
