Two women rescued from River Axe estuary in second incident

-

Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards were called back to the River Axe estuary next to Brean Down on Monday evening (July 11th) after two women sparked the second safety incident there in 48 hours.

Two 22-year-olds got into difficulty at 5pm while attempting to walk across the estuary from Brean Down to Weston.

Realising they could not get back to the shore through the water and mud channels, they dialled 999 on a mobile phone.

A team of nine Coastguard officers rushed to the scene and the pair were escored safely back to the shore.

Burnham-On-Sea.com reported on Saturday evening that a group of three men had also become stuck while attempting to cross the same estuary from Weston to Brean.
