A team of Burnham-On-Sea fundraisers has raised more than £3,000 for Taunton’s ‘Love Musgrove’ appeal through a series of events.
Burnham-On-Sea man Darrel Conibeer’s diagnosed health problems inspired the fundraising efforts.
Darrel, whose health has been affected by a liver condition, has had a tumour removed from his lung and a subsequent liver transplant.
Friends and acquaintances have held a series of events to raise money on his behalf, and the accumulated funds of £3,100 have been presented to ‘Love Musgrove’.
Local fundraisers Sian and Mike Vowles did a skydive for the hospital’s MRI Scanner Campaign. Sian’s husband Mike completed the jump OK, but Sian’s parachute failed to open, so the emergency chute had to be deployed.
Another fundraiser, Helen Bennett, marked her 50th birthday by giving donations to the appeal.
Other events were held at Burnham’s Vape Bar and the Victoria Hotel, supported by local band Daft Folk and landlord Shaun McCann.
Love Musgrove community Fundraiser Dan Varley thanked ‘team Burnham’ for raising the money, adding: “The money that Darrel and the rest of his team raised will be going towards our Radial Lounge Appeal, where we are raising £68,000 to equip a brand new, state of the art treatment lounge where patients coming in for day cases will be treated in a much more comfortable environment, in chairs rather that a bed, and will be a much less disruptive experience for them.”
Love Musgrove is the official charity of Musgrove Park Hospital, which treats over 450,000 patients a year through its emergency department, on its wards and through it outpatient services. Although the hospital is funded by the NHS, it is vital that it raises additional funds to improve its services, purchase new equipment and continue to provide a positive environment for both patients and families.
