Victorian fountain in Burnham-On-Sea
could get
Royal makeover

A
Victorian fountain in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea is set to be
given a makeover to mark next year's golden jubilee of the Queen.
Under
proposals unveiled this week, the 109 year-old structure at the
junction of Sea View Road and Berrow Road (pictured) could be
overhauled in time for next year's Royal celebrations.
Speaking
at a meeting of the Town Improvements Committee, Cllr Neville
Jones said: "We already have money set aside to mark the
Queen's 80th birthday and Queen's golden jubilee, so this could
be a good opportunity to look at the fountain. It's been five
years since the stonework was last looked at, so it's due some
attention."
The
council is investigating the possibility of introducing a solar-powered
traditional lantern on the top of the fountain, along with a full
clean-up of the stonework. A decision on the matter is likely
to be made next month.
