Fire crews and Coastguards called to rescue dog after cliff fall at Brean

-

This was the scene when a lucky Jack Russell was safely rescued after falling down the cliffs at Brean Down on Monday evening (October 19th).

Fire crews and Coastguards were called to help a dog walker who raised the alarm when his pet tumbled 20ft down the rocks at Brean Down Fort.

Coastguards from Burnham-On-Sea and Weston were called to the scene, along with specialist fire rescue teams from Burnham and Bridgwater, just after 5.30pm.

A fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The dog was very fortunate to have landed on a cliff ledge. The dog owner had him on a retractable lead but did not want to pull him up in case his collar slipped or broke.”

“A line rescue crewmember was lowered down the rockface to reach the animal and take him back to safety. It was a straightforward rescue for us.”

The owners, a couple from West Huntspill, were said to be “incredibly relieved and grateful.”
