Free dog chipping session is announced for Burnham-On-Sea

-

Sedgemoor District Council is offering a free micro chipping service to help protect dogs in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge.

Usual fees are between £20 and £30, but Sedgemoor District Council is offering the service for free at a special session on Friday 24th January.

Micro chipping is now recognised as the most effective and secure way of permanently identifying a pet. The law is changing from April 2016 when all dogs will be required to have a microchip.

Free micro chipping will be available for dogs at the Apex Park Office on 24th January from 9am to 12 noon. No booking is required – just turn up on the day.

For further information, contact dog warden Fiona Dickson on 01278 435210.

“Micro chipping is now recognised as the most effective and secure way of permanently identifying a dog. Many are lost or stolen and it can be very distressing for pet owners. Of the many thousands of dogs that go missing each year, it is estimated that less than half are reunited with their owners,” said a council spokesman.

“If Sedgemoor’s Dog Wardens find a lost dog that has a microchip, they can contact the national database to find the owner’s details. The owner is then contacted and reunited with their dog.”
