Torrential rain gives Burnham-On-Sea area a drenching

Torrential rain and high winds caused difficult driving conditions in the Burnham-On-Sea area today (Monday).

The Met Office issued an amber warning as a spell of heavy rainfall and 60mph winds swept through the region.

The storm left pools of rainwater on roads in Burnham, but no serious flooding.

The South Esplanade was partially covered with water, as pictured above, while a terrace near Abingdon Street, right, was also under several inches of water.

In Highbridge, the River Brue overflowed onto the recently-opened footpath, as pictured below.

Several trees were blown down at the height of the storm. Brent Knoll’s Burton Row was temporarily shut by a fallen tree, as pictured below by Michael Hookway.
