A new Ofsted school inspection report has rated West Huntspill Primary Academy ‘good’ in all categories.

The school has been highly rated for its quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, and leadership and management.

It follows a positive two years for the school since it joined The Priory Learning Trust in 2022. It was previously rated as ‘inadequate’ in 2020.

The report says: “Pupils are happy to come to West Huntspill Primary Academy. They enjoy school because it is a fun place to learn.”

Inspectors also praise the high expectations of pupils’ behaviour with clear routines in place and children showing positive attitudes to learning and playing well together.

The report also highlights the wide variety of after-school clubs enjoyed by pupils including gardening, mindfulness, dance and multi-sports.

It adds: “Most parents would recommend the school to other parents. They say the school communicates well with them and addresses any concerns they may have. The school provides curriculum information sessions and a reading café for parents. This supports parents in knowing how to read at home with their child.”

Reacting to the news, Principal Emma Barker told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are all absolutely delighted with this report. Our children are at the centre of all we do and everyone has worked incredibly hard to get to this point.”

“We have so many further improvements to make to make the learning for the children even better.”

Lisa Dadds, Director of Primary Education and Standards at The Priory Learning Trust, says: “This is a brilliant endorsement or all the super work that has gone on over the last couple of years. Thanks for everyone for all their support. The whole school community is thriving.”

The popular academy has places available for a September 2024 start.
