Highbridge school pupils decorate tree to illustrate the beauty of poetry

-

Poetry students at a Highbridge school have decorated this tree during a project to illustrate the beauty of poetry.

Year 8 students at King Alfred School decorated the trees with colourful rbibons and poems.

Each tutor group chose a theme for ‘the Poetree’, choosing topics such as under the sea, Olympics and Paralympics, animals, Disney, space and more.

Each tutor group then set about writing their poems based on their theme, and the tutor group judged to have the best selection of poems will get a prize at their end of year assembly.

“The King Alfred School did this to highlight just how beautiful poetry it can be,” said Miss D Booth, Literacy Co-ordinator.

“The activity was designed to spread a love and enjoyment for poetry. It has certainly done its job: many of The King Alfred School’s staff and students have stopped to read the poems and have commented on how beautiful the tree looks.”

“Students from other year groups have even asked if they can write a poem and attach it to the tree.”
