Beach horse riding in Berrow and Brean
Ride your horse besides the waves…
One of Europe’s longest sand beaches stretches from Burnham-On-Sea past the holiday villages of Berrow and Brean to the National Trust headland of Brean Down.
This seven mile beach is one of Somerset’s finest attractions and with the world’s second highest tidal range, the sands provide a wonderful location for beach horse riding.
Beach horse riding is allowed on Brean and Berrow beaches but not on Burnham-On-Sea’s beach.
The following regulations and costs should be noted:
COSTS FOR HORSE BOXES AND PARKING
Horse owners are advised to park on Berrow or Brean beach car parks. There is a fee during the holiday season (April to October):
Berrow Beach (entrance by Unity Farm)
Horse transporter one-off fee: £16.
Horse box one-off fee: £9.
Annual Parking Pass – Horsebox per vehicle: £65.00
Annual Parking Pass – Horse Transporter: £90.00

Brean Beach (entrance near Brean Down Toilets)
Horse box / trailer: £5.00
RULES AND REGULATIONS:
No person shall, on the seashore, break-in any horse or other animal or ride or drive any horse or other animal in a race or so as to cause danger or annoyance to any person using the seashore.
No unauthorised person shall use any slip way or entrance to Burnham Beach or area of beach the length of the sea wall from the Yacht Club to Maddocks Slade for horse or pony riding.
The gates are open from approximately 8am to 8pm, closing earlier between Autumn and Spring. Check the times when you are arrive on the beach.
Check the tide timetables in advance here. Persons using the beach for the first time should choose a day when the tide is out so they can identify obstacles such as posts and the shipwreck etc.
Keep out of the dunes, which are preservation areas.
Be aware of other beach users, especially small children playing.
Always collect and take away horse manure.
Consider your insurance in case you injure yourself or others. You may be asked to show your insurance particulars.
Be aware that in the event of an accident, the nearest telephone may be some distance and not all areas are accessible to ambulances.
Listen to the instructions and advice of beach wardens.
