Highbridge's new Asda roundabout opens after eight month road
closure
Eight
months of disruptive roadworks in Highbridge finally came to an
end on Friday morning (August 31st) when a new supermarket roundabout
was opened.
Work
to construct the new road layout outside the soon-to-open Asda
supermarket was finally completed and the road was opened at 7am
on Friday morning (August 31st).
Just
seconds after workmen removed road closure signs and bollards
at the site, pictured, the white van above was the first vehicle
through.
The
opening came after motorists had endured months of delays when
the A38 was partially closed by the work. A road closure came
into force along Burnham Road on January 2nd and had been expected
to finish by the end of July.
But
delays led to the work being re-scheduled and then finally completed
today at the end of August.
Asda
spokeswoman Helen Jones had told Burnham-On-Sea.com last week
that the roadworks were "on track" to finish at the
end of August.
She
added that construction of the store itself is on track and a
grand opening is being planned.
