New beach safety warning after beachwarden and two cars get stuck

A fresh warning has been issued about driving on local beaches in the Burnham-On-Sea area after three vehicles were rescued at the weekend.

Brean's beachwarden became stuck while attempting to pull a stranded car out of the soft sand on Brean beach on Sunday.

A crew from Burnham's BARB Search & Rescue was called to rescue both vehicles, as pictured here.

"A Ford Mondeo had become stuck in soft sand and the beachwarden had done the right thing in trying to help but had then got into difficulty himself as well, demonstrating how easy it is to get stuck," said a BARB spokesperson.

"Fortunately, we were able to tow both vehicles out and the driver of the Ford Mondeo made a donation to BARB to cover its costs of attending."

Late on Saturday night, Coastguards and BARB were also called out to retrieve a separate stranded vehicle on Weston beach.

"Our advice is to stay on the hard sand in beach parking areas only, heed the warning signs to keep away from the mud, and also check the tide times," added BARB's spokesman.
