M5 incidents cause day of delays to Burnham-On-Sea motorists

Motorists travelling into the Burnham-On-Sea area faced long delays on Friday (June 13th) following a spate of incidents.

Police and fire crews were called to the northbound carriageway between junction 22 at Burnham and 23 for Highbridge at 1.30pm following a crash involving a lorry and a car.

One person suffered facial injuries and was taken to Musgrove Hospital by ambulance.

An earlier collision on the M5 at at Burnham saw a further two vehicles collide art 12.20pm, which left one person “shaken with minor injruies”, according to an ambulance spokeswoman.

Further towards Bristol, a car fire mid-afternoon caused delays for southbound traffic and a caravan also flipped over on the M5.

Long tailbacks of traffic built up in both directions during the afternoon while emergency services dealt with the series of incidents.
