-

Police in Highbridge used a taser gun to subdue an aggressive teenager during an incident in the town earlier this week.

Officers deployed the gun – which issues an electric shock – when the man become aggressive on Tuesday (July 12th) at Wade House in Church Street.

Police spokesman Martin Dunscombe told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Police received a report of criminal damage being caused at a property in Church Street.”

“Officers attended the scene and a man became aggressive, requiring police officers there to use a taser.”

“A 17-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and to prevent a breach of the peace.”

“He was taken into custody at Bridgwater Police Station and has subsequently been released without charge.”

Taser guns have only been in formal use by UK police since November 2008. They are used only where officers face violence or threats of violence.
