Motorists urged not to block access to Berrow beach’s entry road amid safety fears

-

Sedgemoor District Council has this week urged motorists not to block the beach access road at Berrow amid safety concerns.

The gates to the beach access road are currently locked and cars are unable to drive onto the sands amid the Coronavirus lockdown.

However, several motorists have this week been seen parking in front of the gates, leading to a warning by the council, which manages the road.

Sedgemoor District Council spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A couple of cars have been moved this week as they had parked in front of the gates providing access onto the beach. A notice on the gate clearly states no parking.”

The council adds that access should not be blocked in case of emergency call-outs by Police, Coastguards, BARB or the fire service.
