A Burnham-On-Sea tennis coach is this week celebrating winning a trio of trophies.
Avenue Tennis Club Coach, Craig Phillips, has won the Somerset Open Men’s Singles and Doubles together with the Somerset Closed Mens.
Craig – who is pictured with youngsters at the club’s summer tennis holiday camp – began learning to play tennis at the club when he was aged just eight.
Head Coach Vinny Duddy said: “Craig played some fantastic tennis during the tournaments and suprised himself as his focus has been on doubles recently.”
“As well as being a fantastic player he is proving himself to be an excellent coach.”
“He has played for the men’s county team for several years and has also won the Somerset Open Title for the last six years in a row.”
“Craig has always been interested in tennis and, after spending sometime at Bridgwater College on a sports course, came to the club on an apprenticeship scheme.”
“He has passed all his tennis coaching qualifications up to LTA level 3 and is hoping to do his level 4 in the near future.”
Meanwhile, Junior Squad Coaching re-started on Monday (2nd September) and that there were some small changes to coaching squad timings. Details are available from Vinny or Craig at the club on 01278 782758.
