Work
begins at last on Burnham-On-Sea's Frank Foley Parkway
Long-awaited
work to complete Burnham-On-Sea's 'road to nowhere', the half-completed
Frank Foley Parkway, finally began on Friday (October 17th).
Somerset
County Council started site clearance work to remove overgrown
shrubs and brambles along the line of the proposed Burnham Eastern
Distributor Road, also called the Frank Foley Parkway, in advance
of road construction during the coming months.
County
Council spokeswoman Elizabeth Kulh told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "These
works will enable entry for further detailed topographical and
geotechnical surveys on the affected area prior to the finalisation
of the detailed design of the unconstructed portion of the road."
"They
follow on from a detailed ecological survey and preliminary design
works and have been held over until autumn to avoid any possibility
of interference with wildlife."
She
added: "Following clearance, the site will be covered with
recycled road chippings to minimise regrowth of unwanted vegetation."
Burnham-On-Sea.com
broke the news in
April that Somerset
County Council had given the go-ahead for the final part of the
'road to nowhere' to be built.
