£2.5m Berrow Medical
Centre wins approval from council planners

Backers
of a proposed £2.5million medical centre at Berrow, near
Burnham-On-Sea, are celebrating this week after the scheme won
the approval of district council planners.
The
new Berrow Health Centre, on
land
to the north of Brent Road, was granted appoval at a district
council meeting in Bridgwater on Tuesday (March 10th).
Burnham-On-Sea.com
exclusively reported in
November how fresh
plans for the centre had been resubmitted for
consideration, eight
months after the first set of proposals had been withdrawn amid
concern that the building was out-of-keeping.
The
new-look development, pictured here, will include two new NHS
dentists in addition to extra medical services to help relieve
the pressure on Burnham's busy Love Lane health centre.
The
plans were recommended for approval by Sedgemoor's planning case
officer, Keith Reed, despite objections from several local residents
and Somerset County Council's Highways department. The application
had won the backing of the town and parish council.
The
scheme is being funded by partners of Burnham Medical Centre,
along with Somerset Primary Care Trust.
