Rescue
hovercraft called to check on safety of mud walkers at Brean

One
of Burnham-On-Sea's rescue hovercrafts was diverted from a training
session to check on the safety of four people wading across the
mudflats at Brean on Saturday (September 26th).
The
Spirit Of Lelaina hovercraft was training on Berrow beach, as
pictured, when a beach warden at nearby Brean spotted the group
of four walking out across the mudflats almost half a mile from
the top of the beach.
The
hovercraft's crew quickly changed their plans and flew north towards
Brean Down to investigate.
BARB
Operations Manager Steve Perks said: "The four people seemed
to be trying to wade out across the mudflats to reach the sea,
which was still some way out. As there was some concern for them,
we checked on their safety but on this occasion they were not
in difficulty and were able to walk back to the sand."
"We
always advise people to stay clear of the mud and enjoy the hard
sand along the top of the beach, which is very safe."
