Motorist hurt in three-car M5 accident near Burnham-On-Sea

-

This was the scene on the M5 motorway near Burnham-On-Sea on Sunday (August 7th) after a serious accident closed two lanes of the northbound carriageway.

Fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea and Weston cut the roof from a car to access a person inside shortly after 3pm following the incident between Burnham and Weston.

The man suffered suspected spinal injuries and was freed from his Corsa and taken to hospital by ambulance.

The three-vehicle accident, which occurred a mile north of Sedgemoor Services, caused long tailbacks of holiday traffic along the A38 past Brent Knoll.

“Three fire appliances from Burnham and Weston, along with the Rescue Tender from Weston, were mobilised to reports of an accident where persons were trapped,” a fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Upon arrival, crews confirmed a three-vehicle collision with one person trapped in one vehicle. Crews got to work using Hydraulic rescue equipment to remove the roof of the car in order to release the casualty.”

“One male casualty was rescused by the fire service and placed on a spinal board who was then handed over to the ambulance service.”
