Mayor
unveils plaque thanking £16k donors of Highbridge town clock

A
new plaque was unveiled in Highbridge on Monday (June 11th) to
formally thank those local people who donated over £16,000
towards the cost of the new town clock.
More
than 30 people attended the ceremony outside Highbridge Community
Centre in Market Street, where Mayor Ken Smout and Highbridge's
Chamber of Trade Chairman Mike Murphy lowered a flag to unveil
the new plaque.
Mr
Murphy's name was drawn from a hat containing the names of the
40 individuals and businesses who donated towards the clock fund.
Donations
amounting to £16,700 were received, including one single
donation of £5,000 and £8,000 from Raglan Housing
Association.
"The
names of all those who generously contributed are listed on the
plaque, which is located outside the community centre," the
Mayor told Burnham-On-Sea.com. "The ceremony was followed
by a tea party in the hall to formally thank all the supporters."
Special
thanks were also given to town councillor Mike Mansfield for his
work in seeking the sponsors and collecting the funds.
The
new four-faced clock was recently
unveiled in the town's Jubilee Gardens to replace the former
crumbling three-faced clock.
