Mayor launches Highbridge's new-look Xmas lights display

Highbridge's Christmas lights were formally unveiled by the town's Mayor last night (Monday, December 8th).

A group of residents, councillors and Mayor Martin Cox gathered outside the Community Centre in Market Street for the official launch.

Highbridge Chamber of Trade Chairman Mike Murphy, who organises the lights each year, told "We have over 70 lights this year, including 30 new ones and extra mini trees, so it's our biggest-ever display."

"The Town Council has been superb in giving us funding for the new lights - we hope to get a further dozen new lights next year to fill in some of the gaps."

"There has been superb support from the town's businesses this year who are saying the lights help to make the town more welcoming."

Cllr Martin Cox, pictured at the launch, added: "Market Street in particular looks very festive and colourful this year, with the huge Christmas tree outside the Community Centre and the new lights on the buildings."

"We are very happy to support the display as a council and thank all those who help to show the town off at its best."

The town's Christmas tree, located besides the Frank Foley statue, has been supplied by Burnham and Highbridge Town Council.

Highbridge Chamber of Trade has stored up £7,500 of grant funding over the past few years to allow the 30 new colourful lights to be installed.
