A team of gymnasts from across the Burnham-On-Sea area have returned from an international competition in Germany with multiple medals.

The group of 31 gymnasts and their coaches from Highbridge-based Monarchs Gymnastics Club travelled to Mainz near Frankfurt.

There, they took part in the 16th International Gutenberg Cup across a number of age categories against competitors from all over Europe.

The team has returned with a super haul of 34 medals.

“This year the competition was even bigger than last year with teams from Denmark and Italy as well as five teams from Germany, including their national team, two from England and two from Scotland and over 400 competitors in total,” said a spokeswoman.

Those winning gold were Charlie Dymond and Thomas Hicks (3 golds each), Alice Kelson and Freya Cooper, Jacob Baker and Monique Wellman-Mason, Joseph Blake and Kean Hawkes (2 golds each), Leonie Warburton and Evie Skinner, and Joseph Reed and Jack Warburton.

Silver winners were Freya Cooper and Alice Kelson, Heather Reed, Emily Auger and Lucy Smith, Toby Baker and Connie Skinner.

Bronze was won by Ellie Cater and Olivia Reed (2 bronze each), Emmy Dymond, Casey House and Gina Cumberlidge, and Eloise Baker and Aaliyah Chan.

Our junior trio, Jess Reed, Gracie Huggins and Harriet Munro-March did very well to come in 5th place. Jess and Gracie competed as bases for the first time in an international competition with new partner Harriet.

Also taking part in their first international competition and doing extremely well were Jennifer Marshall and Evie Tissington who came 8th and Rachel Medhurst and Poppy Cooper 14th.

Their coaches were very proud of all of the gymnasts and would like to thank the parents who travelled with the party for their support.

New members are always welcome and should telephone Mandy on 07738909318 for information.
