Brent Knoll roads fully re-open as flood prevention work is completed

A month-long closure of the main road through Brent Knoll has been lifted this week with the completion of the first stage of a major new flood prevention project.

Brent Street was shut for four weeks while the work went ahead by Axe Brue Drainage Board contractors.

"This essential flood relief scheme will reduce the risk of flooding to properties and roads in the area," a spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

The project has delivered a new culvert under Brent Street to take excess water flows away from Church Lane and divert it to the south toward the Applewithy Rhyne.

Axe Brue Drainage Board says the work will prevent flooding of property and roads in Brent Knoll, which has occured on a number of occasions, notably in late 1999 and more recently in November 2012 and January 2013.

The scheme is joint funded by the Somerset Drainage Boards Consortium, Somerset County Council, Wessex Water and Brent Knoll Parish Council.
