Red Arrows draw record crowds to Brean Down for Weston Air Show

Record crowds flocked to Brean Down over the weekend to watch the world-famous Red Arrows and other leading planes soar across local skies for the annual Weston Air Show.

Crowds of spectators headed to Brean Down to get a close-up view of the planes as they streaked across the blue skies, as pictured here.

The Red Arrows performed on both Saturday and Sunday in their familiar diamond formation and with colourful smoke trails behind them. Memorable moments were when they formed a heart and also the numbers '100' to mark this year's RAF anniversary.

The popular show, which was held during a weekend of hot sunshine, also featured aircraft such as the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, the Strikemaster, Red Bull BO-105, Mustang, Autogyro, Catalina, Pitts Special S-1S G-TWRL, Gazelle and Typhoon. The Aerosuperbatics Wingwalkers were also in action.

Brean Parish Council said hundeds of vehicles had parked on the beach over the two days and the National Trust's car park was also at full capacity.

Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards performed several safety patrols on Brean Down to check on the safety of spectators.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight also flew over Burnham, as captured here by reader Ricky Holmes
