The organisers of Burnham-On-Sea’s annual seafront fireworks display have this week appealed for local businesses to help fund the event’s soaring costs.
This year’s display is scheduled to begin at 6.30pm on Sunday 3rd November with a sparkling display of fireworks from the town’s jetty.
However, town councillor Dennis Davey told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This year, the fireworks will have to be fired from a platform on the jetty because of a particularly high tide, which unfortunately increases the costs to around £11,000.”
“This includes the cost of the jetty launching platform, fireworks, road marshalls, road closures, first aid and PA services.”
He added that while the display is funded by Burnham and Highbridge Town Council, support from local businesses is vital.
“This event acts as a curtain raiser for the carnival the following day and attracts many people to the town for the weekend,” he said.
“With our finances being squeezed, support from local businesses is essential and we very much welcome contributions to help us meet the overall costs.”
Large crowds flock to The Esplanade to watch the display, which is held on the night before Burnham-On-Sea Carnival, which this year takes place on Monday November 4th. The council can be reached on 01278 788088.
