Dozens of jobs have been lost at a Highbridge food wholesale firm which has gone into administration this week.

KPMG have this week been appointed administrators to BFP Wholesale, a bakery ingredients wholesaler, located on the town’s Isleport Industrial Estate.

“The company, which employs a total of 165 staff based across four sites in Highbridge, Sevenoaks, Leeds and Livingstone, had undergone a sustained period of declining revenues, which was exacerbated by the withdrawal of its credit insurance,” a spokesman for KPMG told

“The company subsequently ceased trading before the appointment of the joint administrators.”

“Upon their appointment, the administrators made a total of 74 redundancies at Highbridge and Sevenoaks.”

“The administrators are looking at the options for all the sites which includes seeking a buyer for the business and its assets.”

Burnham and Highbridge’s Mayor, Cllr Michael Clarke, told “This is terrible news, it’s very sad to hear of so many jobs being lost. My thoughts go to all those who are affected.”
