Police launch speed crackdown as 90% of drivers exceed 30mph limit

-

90 per cent of drivers passing a speed monitoring system in Berrow have exceeded the 30mph limit, Burnham-On-Sea police said this week.

The roadside device in the village has revealed the shock statistic over the course of several days.

Officers from Burnham Police have this week warned motorists that extra speed checks are to be carried out during coming weeks in response to the results, with action taken against those breaking the limit.

“We aware of a problem here and will be running an operation targeting speeding motorists in Berrow Road and Berrow’s Coast Road,” a police spokeswoman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Somerset County Council installs the speed indicator devices (SIDs) along roads where there are concerns about speeding.

The devices display the speed of approaching vehicles and record the information in order for councils and the police to assess the need for targeted action.
