St George’s Day marked with special event on top of Brent Knoll for schoolchildren

-

Saint George’s Day was marked with a special event on top of Brent Knoll for local schoolchildren.

The pupils of Brent Knoll Primary School walked up the hill with their flag of St George before a unique outdoor lesson.

Pauline Trapp from Axbridge museum was on hand to explain to the pupils how the hill was once an iron-age settlement.

Saint George’s Day, also known as the Feast of Saint George, is the feast day of Saint George as celebrated by various Christian Churches and by the several nations, kingdoms, countries, and cities of which Saint George is the patron saint.

The day honouring the dragon-slaying saint has been an important festival since the 15th Century.
