New
Conservation Officer takes on regeneration role in Burnham-On-Sea
A
new Conservation
Officer for Burnham-On-Sea who will help with
environmental projects and work on 'heritage regeneration' has
been appointed this week.
English
Heritage and Sedgemoor District Council are jointly funding the
new position, which covers both Burnham and Bridgwater.
James
White has taken on the role and SDC says he will be a key player
in promoting 'heritage regeneration' in the two towns.
A
council spokesman explained that with no Conservation Officer
previously in place it was becoming difficult to obtain the specialist
information required to inform conservation decisions and work
out a way forward for key conservation projects.
Mr
White will be closely involved in bringing improvements to Burnham.
He will also make recommendations on listed building applications,
provide specialist advice to the council and the public, and carry
out conservation area assessments.
"I
am looking forward to discovering the historic towns and villages
of Sedgemoor and working alongside English Heritage to ensure
the preservation and enhancement of Bridgwater and Burnham,"
he said.
Mr
White has a BA (Hons) in Architectural Studies from Nottingham
University and has previously worked for Mansfield District Council
as a Conservation Assistant and Nottingham County Council as an
Archaeology and Historic Buildings Assistant.
