Burnham-On-Sea's new Active Learning Centre announces busy schedule

Burnham-On-Sea's new Active Living Centre, which opens this week, has unveiled its busy programme of activities for the next few months.

The new centre launched last month (pictured above) and holds its first session on Friday (January 5th), to be followed by further sessions on the first Friday of each month from 10am-12noon.

Sophie Courtiour, a willow weaver, will be demonstrating her craft and inviting people to have a go on January 5th.

Organiser Sue Butler said: "Sophie has worked in willow for many years and specialises in large-scale sculptures and living willow projects. You may have seen the leaping deer on the A303, which she jointly sculpted with Stephan Jennings and the striking Beast of the Black down Hills she recently completed near Blagdon Hill."

The next sesssion, on Friday 2nd February, will see local police officers and community support officers talking about keeping safe when there will also be an opportunity to ask about local policing and the chance to voice queries or concerns.

On Friday 2nd March, one of Burnham's beauty salons, 'N-hance', will be donating free hand massages. Laura Ridout, the salon's Sports and Lifestyles Manager, will be carrying out blood pressure tests and talking about how exercise can affect blood pressure.

A wide range of refreshments are available (50p for tea/coffee) and there will also be an opportunity to chat and play board and card games. A book and magazine exchange will be offered.
