Burnham-On-Sea
yacht skipper sets sail on third leg of 35,000 mile race
Burnham-On-Sea
yacht skipper Mark Preedy has this week set sail from Brazil on
the third leg of the prestigious ten-month Round The World Yacht
Race.
Mark,
35, was chosen earlier this
year to skipper Uniquely Singapore, one of the ten yachts
taking part in the 35,000-mile race.
He
set sail from Liverpool in September and is not due to return
to the UK until July 2008.
Mark's
crew is lying in sixth place overall, having finished the 26-day
second leg - from La Rochelle in France to Salvador in Brazil
- in seventh spot.
The
crew was determined to claw back some vital points as they set
sail from Salvador in Brazil on Wednesday afternoon (October 24th)
- as pictured above.
The
race's 4,100-mile third leg will take them to Durban in South
Africa.
Mark,
right, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "The crew is building in
confidence and wants to see what they can do in this next race.
Our plan involves breaking the ocean crossing down into stages
to keep the crew focused during the long passage ahead."
Uniquely
Singapore opted for an offshore course at the start of the third
race and managed to pull ahead into first place as they headed
off towards Durban in good breeze.
The
fleet is expected to arrive in Durban around 17th November and
the fleet will then visit Singapore between 19-27 January 2008.
