Highbridge
Local Action Team's activity sessions well supported
Highbridge's
recently-formed Local Action Team has just finished a number of
summer holiday sessions for local youngsters in partnership with
King Alfred Sports Centre using funding from Burnham and Highbridge
Town Council.
Five
two hour sessions were held at Morland Hall for £1 per child
over the past two weeks when children from the ages of 5-12 were
invited to join in with a range of activities staffed by King
Alfred Sports Centre and volunteers from the LAT.
On
average, a dozen youths attended each day and took part in activities
ranging from belly slides and water rockets to team games, such
as hockey and Olympic-style challenges.
PCSO
Claire Chambers for the Highbridge beat told Burnham-On-Sea.com:
"It was great to see the children making new friends and
having fun!"
"The
staff from King Alfred Sports Centre were fantastic and came up
with loads of ways to keep the youths busy and entertained."
She
added: "Parents were thrilled with having time to rest and
said they would like to see more opportunities like this, which
is something the LAT hope to achieve."
Feedback
from the children who attended was very positive, with all of
them hoping there will be more sessions in the future.
Claire
added: "The LAT would also like to say a big thank you to
Sedgemoor District Council and the Somerset West Crime and Disorder
Reduction Partnership, who have recently agreed to donate over
£1,000 to the group to fund future projects."
The
next LAT meeting will be held this Wednesday, September 3rd at
7.30pm, in the Morland Hall Annexe in Highbridge when the community
will be welcome to come along and join in. Alternatively, please
email
Gill Udall with any ideas or issues that you'd like put forward
at the meeting.
