New
Berrow sports facility opened by Burnham-On-Sea
Olympic cyclist

Burnham-On-Sea's
Olympic BMX rider Liam Phillips performed the official opening
of Berrow's new flood-lit multi-use games area on Saturday afternoon
(29th November).
The
facility, located to the north-east of the Phoenix Pavilion in
Parsonage Road, Berrow, was officially opened to the public at
mid-day during a ceremony in front of local councillors and users,
as pictured here.
Berrow
Parish Council installed the games area after securing funding
of £45,950 from Sedgemoor District Council's RLT3 Outdoor
Sports Fund, £19,500 from Viridor Credits Environmental
Company through the Landfill Communities Fund, and £6,000
from Somerset County Council's Sedgemoor Area Working Panel.
Berrow
Parish Council's Chairman, Jenny Bentley, told Burnham-On-Sea.com:
"We are delighted that this project has been completed on
time and within budget. It is a welcome addition to the pavilion
and sports fields and provides a full suite of excellent facilities
for Berrow and the surrounding area."
Parish
Clerk Lynn Smith added: "The installation of the games area,
which will provide facilities for a range of sports including
football, basketball, tennis and netball, has been discussed by
the Parish Council for several years now in response to the production
of the Berrow Parish Plan 2003 - 2007."
"It
is wonderful that it has finally been achieved. Thanks must also
go to all the previous councillors and representatives of the
user groups who helped with the initial plans. Without them, it
would never have been achieved."
The
games area is available for hire at a cost of £10 per hour,
plus the purchase of tokens for the floodlights if needed. Further
details are available from Lynn on 01278 793124.
