Burnham and Highbridge cadets celebrate first aid competition wins

Cadets from Highbridge and Burnham St John Ambulance group are celebrating this week after winning several top places in the County First Aid Competitions over the weekend.

Charlotte Aldred and Lucy Westlake were placed first overall and will go on to represent Somerset at the South West Regional finals in April.

The girls also won the best team test award and Lucy won the trophy for best individual First Aider.

All the competitors had to treat simulated casualties with injuries including a fractured arm, severe bleeding and a heart attack.

Tom Westlake and Andy Pike from the local division were placed 4th and Hannah Dowell, Hollie Hemmings and Kathryn Jacobs were placed 5th.

Hannah, Hollie and Kathryn won the award for the highest placed novice team. They were all entering for the first time and are only aged 10 and 11.
