Burnham-On-Sea
Registry Office 'will re-open this September'
Burnham-On-Sea's
Registry Office will re-open this autumn after a five-month 'temporary'
closure, Somerset County Council announced on Monday (August 4th).
Burnham-On-Sea.com
exclusively reported in July
that the office, based at Burnham and Highbridge Town Council's
chambers in Jaycroft Road (pictured), had been shut for over three
months due to the absence of a key staff member through illness.
This,
in turn, continues to mean that Burnham residents wanting to officially
register births, deaths, adoptions and marriages have to make
an appointment to visit the nearest registry office in Bridgwater.
While
Somerset County Council says this is just a "temporary closure,"
town
councillors raised concerns about the future of the service, with
Cllr Neville Jones saying it was "a very unsatisfactory situation."
But
Somerset County Council spokesman Robert Booth confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com
on Monday (August 4th): "We intend to re-open the Burnham
office in September and a firm date will be available by the middle
of this month."
"There
is no intention to close the registry office."
