District
Council Chairman opens revamped public loos at Berrow

Sedgemoor
District Council's Chairman cut the ribbon to open a revamped
block of public toilets at Berrow on Thursday (June 26th).
As
first reported by Burnham-On-Sea.com earlier this month, the block
of public conveniences has been given a new lease of life in a
joint partnership which has improved facilities for visitors and
residents who visit Berrow Beach.
The
council-owned loos were rapidly approaching the end of their economic
life with the prospect of closure as the toilets were almost beyond
repair. But following negotiations with a nearby holiday park,
a 99 year lease has been agreed.
Beachside
Holiday Park has invested £160,000 by redeveloping the site
of the former conveniences transforming it into a state-of-the-art
facility.
On
the new first floor, a licensed cafe/bar has been created, serving
hot drinks and refreshments as well as ice cream. On the ground
floor, there are new toilets and externally showers have been
added for holiday-makers and visitors to wash off sand and mud.
There is also a new First Aid and Lost Child facility.
Cllr
Anne Fraser, portfolio holder for Business Support and Development
told Burnham-On-Sea.com at Thursday's launch: "We are so
pleased that by common sense and working together Beachside Holiday
Park and Sedgemoor have created a wonderful new facility for holidaymakers
and residents alike. It's a good example of how the Council can
help support the tourism industry in Sedgemoor, which adds much
to the local economy."
Clive
James, proprietor of Beachside Holiday Park, said: "The James
family are very proud of the facility and look forward to future
projects with the Council."
