Vandals leave trail of damage in centre of Burnham-On-Sea

-

Vandals left a trail of damage in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea at the weekend, smashing the windows of three properties.

Two businesses on the High Street face repair bills of several hundred pounds after their shop front windows were smashed.

Shickle Shoes had one of its front windows smashed in and staff were called out by police in the early hours of Sunday morning to get it boarded up.

“There were shards of glass all of the floor inside the shop,” the shop’s Constance Davis told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “Nothing was taken from inside. It seems to have been a simple act of vandalism.”

Staff at estate agents Applegates were shocked to find the front door of their shop, on the corner of Adam Street, smashed. “Someone appeared to have kicked the door in – it was completely mindless,” said a spokeswoman.

The vandals also attacked a private home in Adam Street, where a large pane of glass was smashed.

Meanwhile, Burnham police are checking CCTV footage of the area to see whether the spate of incidents were captured on film.
