Annual Somerset tradition
of wassailing to be performed at charity event
An
old Somerset tradition of wassailing - held each year on January
17th (the old 'twelfth night') to ensure a fine crop of cider
apples during the summer ahead - will be performed at a charity
event near Highbridge on Thursday night.
Burnham-On-Sea
Rotary Club and Rich's Cider are organising an evening of wassailing
- in which good health is wished on crops for the coming year
- including entertainment from The Mangled Wurzels (pictured),
in aid of the Somerset and Dorset Air Ambulance.
The
event will be
held at Rich's Cider in Watchfield and tickets cost £15
in advance and include a plate of stew and a mug of mulled cider.
Doors
open at 7.30pm and tickets are available by calling 01278 783651.
