Celebrating
Berrow play area team receives £50,000 lotto cheque

Delighted
fundraisers in Berrow were handed this bumper cheque for £50,000
on Friday afternoon (November 27th) after they won a phone competition
for National Lottery funding towards a new play area in the village.
As
first reported by Burnham-On-Sea.com on Thursday,
the village was awarded the funding after being named the 'lucky
loser' in a phone competition organised by ITV West.
The
fundraisers failed to win Monday's competition to capture the
most votes, but instead secured the cash by becoming the project
to collect the most votes as a 'loser'.
The
cheque was handed at Berrow Primary School in front of celebrating
pupils on Friday, as pictured here.
It
means the project to refurbish the play area on the Village Green
and turn it into a modern new facility called the 'Berrow Empowering
Play Area' can now proceed.
Berrow
Parish Council Clerk Lynn Smith told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Thursday
evening: "We're absolutely thrilled. It's wonderful news
and makes all the hard work in recent months well worth it!"
She
thanked everyone who had voted for the bid earlier this week.
Work will begin on the new play area soon with the aim of getting
it completed by next summer.
