£2.5m Berrow Medical
Centre plans set to be approved?

A
new £2.5million medical centre near Burnham-On-Sea looks
set to win approval from district council planners next Tuesday
(March 10th).
Plans
for the proposed Berrow Health Centre, on
land
to the north of Brent Road, are set to be considered at a meeting
in Bridgwater.
Burnham-On-Sea.com
exclusively reported in
November how fresh
plans for the centre had been resubmitted for
consideration, eight
months after the first set of proposals were withdrawn after concern
that the building was out-of-keeping.
The
new-look scheme, pictured here, includes two new NHS dentists
and extra medical services to help relieve the pressure on Burnham's
busy Love Lane health centre.
The
plans have been recommended for approval by Sedgemoor's planning
case officer, despite objections from some local residents and
Somerset County Council's Highways department.
"The
proposed development is located outside development limits, where
it is remote from adequate services and facilities, and there
is extremely limited access to public transport services. As such
there will be an increase in the need for journeys to be made
by private car, which is not sustainable and in conflict with
advice given in our policies," said a county council spokesman.
But
the application has won the backing of the town and parish council.
The scheme is being funded by partners of Burnham Medical Centre,
along with Somerset Primary Care Trust.
