Plans
for £3m Brent Knoll viewing tower unveiled by engineering
firm
Exciting
proposals for a £3million viewing tower and visitor centre
to be built on the top of Brent Knoll are set to be unveiled today.
The
60 metre tall 'County Tower' will be a concrete and steel structure
that rises from the top of the Knoll.
It
will boast a 360 degree glass viewing platform offering extensive
views across Somerset and beyond.
The
company behind the scheme, AF Engineering, is due to announce
more details on Wednesday, but has already published these photos
of how the structure might look and says it expects to submit
a formal planning application for the scheme during the next few
days.
"If
our plans win approval then we could begin building later this
year and open it during 2010," a spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
"The
tower would give visitors some incredible panoramic views across
Somerset and across the Bristol Channel into Wales. We expect
there to be huge interest."
The
project includes creating a tarmac road to the top of the Knoll,
which would start from the A38 close to Sanders Garden World.
Also included in the plans is a two-storey visitor centre, to
be located at the foot of the tower, which will house a cafe and
shop. Further details are expected to be announced shortly.
