Burnham
hovercraft carries out 'safety mission' with a difference

One
of Burnham-On-Sea's hovercrafts was used for a unique 'safety
mission' on Saturday (October 31st).
Sedgemoor
District Council's Assistant Harbour Officer, Ricky Holmes, and
Nick Prout were flown out into Bridgwater Bay to check the condition
of several buoys around Stert Island before the winter storm season.
The
buoys play an essential role in ensuring the safe navigation of
boats through Bridgwater Bay. Their exact locations are recorded
on charts and therefore regular checks are important.
Ricky
told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "We perform periodic checks of the
buoys to ensure their ground tackle is safe, and that they are
well anchored. As we can only check them at low tide, the help
of the hovercraft was invaluable."
Sedgemoor
District Council made a donation to BARB to cover its costs for
the work.
