Burnham-On-Sea carpet firm shuts with loss of 10 jobs
carpets and flooring business based in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea
has this week closed with the loss of several jobs.
Woods Floor Contractors shut its shop at 17 Victoria Street, pictured,
due to the downturn in the housing market.
A sign in the window of the shop states that "due to unforseen
circumstances, Stephen Woods Flooring has ceased trading."
Woods explained to Burnham-On-Sea.com: "There are a number
of reasons behind the closure, but it's mainly due to the downturn
in the number of new housing builds."
has hurt business a great deal. We've also had no help at all
from our bank, which has been very disappointing, and have been
left with no choice but to close."
added: "Ten jobs have regrettably been lost over the past
year, with five people just recently laid off with the shop closure."
Woods added that he has linked up with Highbridge-based C&H
Carpets and Flooring to ensure that the firm's major customers
are not left without a supplier of flooring materials.
