A charity beach walk from Burnham-On-Sea jetty to Brean Down and back is set to be held on Sunday May 31st to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

This year’s 15-mile Brean Challenge will start at 11am in Burnham and organisers expect it to take around 4-5 hours.

The event’s organiser, Mike Barsby, has set himself a fundraising target of £10,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society over the next 18 months. He is also planning to complete a high altitude trek to Everest base camp in October 2010.

“Previous beach walks have been very enjoyable with a relaxed atmosphere and a good mix of people of all ages and abilities,” Mike told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Everyone is welcome – including sponsored dogs – and it’s a great opportunity to enjoy parts of our beach that you may not have seen before.”

“Apart from enjoying the exercise and the company of others, the main purpose is to beat last year’s total of £2,100.”

He added that a shorter alternative walk will be available from the entrance to Berrow Beach and return of 7.5 miles.

For more information, sponsor forms and to register for beach walk, contact Mike on 07936538263 or 01278 793487 or via email here.

The Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading care and research charity for people with all forms of dementia, their families and carers.
