Burnham-On-Sea
businesses enjoy 'busiest Easter for many years'

Businesses
in Burnham-On-Sea have enjoyed one of their busiest Easter holidays
for many years, despite the recession.
Crowds
of visitors put the economic gloom behind them and flocked to
the town in large numbers, resulting in bumper takings for traders.
Geoff
Shickle of Shickle Shoes in Burnham High Street told Burnham-On-Sea.com:
"It's been a very good weekend - one of our best Easters
for many years."
"The
weather's been very kind to us and there were lots of people wandering
along the High Street all weekend. It certainly exceeded expectations."
Accommodation
bookings in Burnham were also up on previous years. Joanne Townley
of the Royal Clarence Hotel told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "It's
been a brilliant weekend."
"Our
rooms were fully booked over the whole weekend and we served double
the number of meals on Easter Day compared to last year. Even
the Saturday was up 40 per cent compared to last year."
Burnham
Pier was also busy serving up ice creams and other refreshments,
thanks to the good weather and large numbers of visitors.
Manager
Louise Parkin said: "It's been very busy - just what we needed.
People
seem to be taking cheaper holidays in the UK, rather than spending
more by going abroad. It will be interesting to see whether this
continues over the summer."
Roads
in the Burnham area were busy throughout the weekend. Long queues
of traffic built up along Love Lane from 11am on Bank Holiday
Monday as holidaymakers headed for the M5 motorway for their journey
home.
