Work to finally begin on fire clearance at Highbridge Hotel

-

Work to renovate this fire-damaged former hotel in Highbridge will finally begin in August after Sedgemoor District Council this week said it had given permission for the work to begin.

The Highbridge Hotel will be cleared of anything structurally unsound, while preserving those areas of the property that are covered by listed building regulations.

It comes after three-way talks between Sedgemoor District Council, owner Mead Realisations and English Heritage in recent weeks.

Burnham-On-Sea.com reported earlier this year that Mead had submitted an application to carry out “fire clearance and partial demolition of outbuildings and the fire damaged building.”

The property was left in an unstable condition following a huge fire in April 2008. It has been boarded up ever since.

Discussions have been taking place between Mead and Sedgemoor District Council because parts of the building are listed and therefore need to be conserved.

Mr Mead told Burnham-On-Sea.com last September that he wants to restore the listed building to its former glory.
