Bathing water quality at beaches in Burnham-On-Sea, Brean and Berrow have all passed basic bathing water quality tests in a nationwide survey published this week.
The Environment Agency took 20 samples of sea water at dozens of beaches around the UK between May and September and then compared the feedback against European guidelines.
The results, which were announced by the Department For Food And Rural Affairs on Tuesday (November 18th), show our local beaches all meet basic standards but not the more stringent EU ones.
Brean had achieved the more stringent standard last year. You can read the full 2009 survey results online by clicking here.
Environment Agency regional director Richard Cresswell said: “New standards that come into force in 2015 will set even more ambitious targets and we are utilising the latest technology available to help meet these goals.”
