Burnham-On-Sea
pupils receive 'student of the year' awards

Two
of Burnham-On-Sea's brightest students have been honoured at a
glittering awards ceremony held at Weston College.
Eighteen
year-old Emily Dodd of College Street in Burnham was awarded the
'Care and Early Years Student of the Year' prize after completing
her BTEC First Diploma in Childrens Care Learning and Development.
She
was nominated by lecturer Tanya Gardener, who said: "Emily
is a real success story, having progressed from Level 1 to Level
2, achieving distinction grades on each course."
"She
is a highly motivated student who consistently produced work of
a high standard. In her work placement she showed excellent professional
skills, which has led to a range of job opportunities for her."
Another
deserving winner was Helen Hurley, of Friars Way in Burnham (pictured
right), who won the 'Animal and Equine Student of the Year' award
for her outstanding work at the college's annual 'Celebration
of Success' event. Helen, 40, recently completed a BTEC National
Diploma in Equine Management.
The
talented students were presented with their awards at the Winter
Gardens in Weston-super-Mare by BBC Radio Bristol presenter Nigel
Dando, as pictured here. Mr Dando is a successful radio presenter
with comprehensive media experience in both radio and newspapers.
Both
Burnham students have now progressed onto further courses at the
College; Helen has enrolled on the Foundation Degree in Equine
Management and Emily is working towards a Level 3 Apprenticeship
in Childrens Care Learning and Development whilst working
at Burnham Infants Pre-school.
Weston
College Principal and Chief Executive, Dr Paul Phillips told Burnham-On-Sea.com:
"Whilst we are proud of the achievements of each and every
one of our students, we believe it is important to recognise outstanding
effort and achievement. These awards were presented to students
who have gone the extra mile in their studies, those who have
motivated others, overcome the odds and contributed the most."
